Essay by Mark Tushnet
Michael Perry's second book is annoying. While being annoying can be good, it can also be bad. It's good when “annoying” is a synonym for “provocative,” when it stirs you out of your complacency and forces you to consider your views in a new light. Annoying is bad when it obstructs your consideration of what is being said. A review of the bad side of Perry's book will be a useful prelude to considering its good side.
