Pablo Gonzales

Pablo Gonzales is the Editor-in-Chief of Volume 99. Originally from Dallas, Texas, he holds a B.A. in Journalism and English from Baylor University and an M.Ed. in Bilingual and Urban Education from Southern Methodist University. Before law school, Pablo was a bilingual elementary school teacher with Teach for America in Dallas. He then spent a year on a Fulbright Scholarship to Mexico teaching English in Mexico City. Following his first year of law school, Pablo was an intern to the Hon. Karen Gren Scholer at the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas. This past summer, Pablo interned for the Hon. Irma Carrillo Ramirez at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and was a summer associate at Wick Phillips LLP in Dallas. After graduation, he will clerk for the Hon. John A. Kazen at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas.

André Guidry

André Guidry serves as Volume 99's Senior Managing Editor. He is from Lafayette, Louisiana, and graduated from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette with a B.S. in Mathematics. He also graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a M.S. in Mathematical Finance. During his 1L summer, André interned for the Hon. Meredith Grabill (EIC - Vol. 80) at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. This past summer, André was a summer associate at Kirkland & Ellis in New York City. He will return to Kirkland & Ellis to join its Restructuring group after graduation. André’s Case Note was published in Volume 98 of the Review, and it explores whether the imposition of non-debtor releases in bankruptcy contravenes express provisions of the Bankruptcy Code. His Comment, which is forthcoming publication in Volume 99 of the Review, analyzes the Supreme Court’s recent relaxation of standing requirements in First Amendment pre-enforcement challenges.

Bri Daniel-Harkins

Bri Daniel-Harkins serves as Volume 99's Senior Articles Editor. She is from Louisville, Kentucky and graduated from Loyola University New Orleans in 2019 with B.A. degrees in History, Pre-Law and Classical Studies, Ancient Greek Language. This past summer, Bri was a summer associate at Davis Polk & Wardwell in New York City. Following her first year of law school, Bri studied abroad in Rhodes, Greece and was an extern for the Hon. Janis van Meerveld of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. After graduation, she will clerk for the Hon. Eldon E. Fallon at the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana, and thereafter join the litigation group at Davis Polk. Bri's Comment will be published in Volume 99 of the Review, and discusses a recent Fifth Circuit decision that highlights the tension between antidiscrimination laws and religious freedom in the employment law space.

Alán Díaz-Santana

Alán Díaz-Santana serves as Volume 99’s Diversity & Articles Editor. He is from Reynosa Tamaulipas, México and McAllen, Texas and graduated from Yale University with a B.A. in Environmental Studies concentrating in Environmental Justice. Before law school, he worked as a High School Social Studies teacher with Teach for America and an American Federation of Teachers union leader in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. He spent his first law school summer as an Equal Justice Works Rural Summer Legal Corps Student Fellow at Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid and as an intern to the Hon. Micaela Álvarez at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. This past summer he was a summer associate at Baker Botts LLP in Austin. After graduation, he will clerk for the Hon. Miguel Torres at the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas.

Melanie Frederic is Volume 99's Senior Notes and Comments Editor. Melanie is from Lutcher, Louisiana, and she graduated from Louisiana State University with a B.S. in Biological Sciences. During her 1L and 2L summers, Melanie interned at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana, and she worked at Irwin Fritchie, Liskow and Lewis, and Jones Walker. After graduation, Melanie will clerk for the Hon. Barry W. Ashe at the Eastern District of Louisiana, and then she will join the litigation group of Jones Walker in New Orleans. Melanie's Case Note was selected for publication in Volume 98 of the Review, and it won the Rufus C. Harris award for best student-authored piece on a civil law topic.

Salomé Rivera

Salomé Rivera serves as Volume 99's Senior Associate Editor. She was born in Quito, Ecuador and grew up in Vero Beach, Florida. She graduated from the University of Florida with a B.A in Political Science, a B.A. in Criminology, and was a part of the International Scholars Program. This past summer, Salomé interned for the Hon. Dana M. Douglas at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and Jones Walker LLP in Houston, Texas. As a 3L, Salomé will work as a Law Clerk for Jones Walker's Bankruptcy & Restructuring group and will join full-time after graduation. Salomé's Comment was selected for publication in Volume 99 of the Review and analyzes the limited access that Native American tribal businesses have to bankruptcy relief.

Welcome to Volume 98

Volume 98 endeavors to uphold Tulane Law Review’s enduring standard of legal excellence. The members of the Review relentlessly work to produce Volume 98’s upcoming issues.

Cameron Ott

Cameron Ott serves as Volume 98's Editor in Chief. He is from West Monroe, Louisiana and graduated from University of Louisiana Monroe with a B.S. in Political Science and Spanish. This past summer, Cameron worked at Burns Charest and Gordon Arata in New Orleans. After graduation, he will clerk for the Honorable Eldon E. Fallon of the Eastern District of Louisiana. Cameron's Case Note was selected for publication in Volume 97 of the Review and explores the negative impacts of expanding the interpretation of the subsequent purchaser doctrine in Louisiana law. 

Mary Ryan

Mary Ryan is Volume 98's Senior Managing Editor. Mary's family is fromNew Orleans, Louisiana. She graduated from Fordham University with a degree in History and a concentration in American Catholic Studies. Before attending law school, she worked as a legal assistant at the law firm, Weitz & Luxenberg in New York City. During her 1L and 2L summers, Mary worked at the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, Southwest Louisiana Legal Services, and Weil, Gotshal & Manges in NewYork City. Mary will return to work at Weil in restructuring after graduation.

Katie Norris

Katie serves as Volume 98's Senior Notes & Comments Editor. Katie is from Rhode Island but has lived all over the country, including Virginia, New Orleans, Connecticut, and Hawaii. She graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a B.A. in Marine Affairs. Before attending law school, Katie worked in communications at O'Melveny & Myers LLP. She spent her first law school summer working as an honors legal intern at the Department of Homeland Security, and her second summer back at O'Melveny as a summer associate. After graduation, Katie will return to O'Melveny as a litigation associate. Katie's case note was published in Volume 97 and explores the Fifth Circuit's reading of the FLSA seaman exemption.

Katia Leiva

Katia Leiva serves as Volume 98’s Senior Articles Editor. Katia isfrom New Orleans, Louisiana, and attended Tulane University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science - International Relations and a minor in French. Before law school, she worked at two New Orleans immigration law firms. For both her first and second summers of law school, Katia worked at Holland & Knight, LLP in Houston, Texas. After graduating, Katia will return to Holland & Knight as a litigation associate.

Katie Schimmel

Katie Schimmel serves as Volume 98's Senior Associate Editor. She is from Baton Rouge, Louisiana and graduated fromTulane University with a B.S. in Environmental Earth Science. She spent this summer clerking at Jones Walker LLP and Kean Miller LLP. After graduating, she will return to Jones Walker as a litigation associate. Katie's Comment was published in Volume 98 and explores how Louisiana nuisance law affects French Quarter bars and restaurants.

Antonio X. Milton

Antonio X. Milton serves as Volume 96’s Editor in Chief. Originally hailing from Carencro, Louisiana, Antonio received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Tulane University with a research concentration in Race and Comparative Politics. This past summer, he worked at Bracewell in Houston, Texas. Following graduation, Antonio will clerk for the Honorable Nannette Jolivette Brown of the Eastern District of Louisiana and the Honorable Carl E. Stewart of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

Gianluca S. Cocito-Monoc

Gianluca Cocito-Monoc serves as Volume 96’s Senior Managing Editor. A native Louisianian, he graduated from Lusher Charter School before receiving a bachelor's degree from Tulane. This past summer, he worked in the Houston office of Kirkland & Ellis. After graduation, he will clerk for the Honorable Susie Morgan of the Eastern District of Louisiana. Gianluca has contributed two publications to the Review: his Case Note in Volume 95 explores the Louisiana Supreme Court's holding in Gloria's Ranch v. Tauren Exploration, and his forthcoming Comment in Volume 96 presents a substantive due process challenge to Louisiana's use of peremptory periods to limit a biological father's ability to bring an avowal action.

Emily M. Shinn

Emily M. Shinn serves as Volume 96’s Senior Notes & Comments Editor. In addition to law school, Emily is pursuing a Master of Public Health degree with Tulane’s School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. Emily is originally from Richmond, Virginia and received her Bachelor of Science in Environmental Geoscience from Boston College. Before starting law school, Emily worked for a non-profit organization that promoted food access and sustainable agriculture in the New Orleans area. This past summer, she worked as a summer associate for both Stone Pigman Walther Wittmann and Liskow & Lewis in New Orleans. Emily has been twice published in the Review: Her Case Note in Volume 95 explores a non-delegation doctrine challenge to the Affordable Care Act, and her forthcoming Comment examines the role of restrictive covenants on urban farming during times of national food insecurity and crisis.

Kevin M. Cole

Kevin M. Cole serves as Volume 96’s Senior Articles Editor. Kevin is originally from Mandeville, Louisiana, and attended Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi, where he received his undergraduate degree and MBA. Before law school, Kevin worked in economic development, where he served as an international trade specialist and business recruitment project manager. This past summer, he worked at Stanley, Reuter, Ross, Thornton, & Alford and Phelps Dunbar, both in New Orleans. After graduating, Kevin will clerk for the Honorable Barry W. Ashe of the Eastern District of Louisiana. His forthcoming Comment in Volume 96 explores the various issues of prescription in the context of Louisiana’s protections against surprise medical bills.

Alyssa McCain

Alyssa McCain serves as Volume 96's Senior Associate Editor. Alyssa was born in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, but has called the Houston, Texas area home for most of her life. Alyssa graduated from Texas A&M University with a BBA in Accounting and MS in Finance, and worked as a financial analyst at Chevron for three years before coming to law school. Alyssa worked at Bracewell LLP in Houston, Texas this past summer as a summer associate, and will be returning as a full time associate next fall.

The Associate Editor for Volume 96 is Riana Morales, and Talha A. Chaudhry serves as the Online Editor. Shelby Shearer serves as the Research Editor.

Welcome to Volume 95

Not even a global pandemic can stop the Tulane Law Review from publishing new and cutting edge pieces of legal scholarship. With a few adjustments to accommodate remote work, production of Volume 95 is well underway, and this year's talented staff are excited to continue the Review's dedication to legal scholarship.  

Brandon M. Sprague

Brandon M. Sprague

Brandon M. Sprague serves as Volume 95's Editor in Chief. A native of Kenner, Louisiana, Brandon has spent his whole life in the Greater New Orleans area. He graduated from Jesuit High School in 2015 and received a Bachelor of the Arts in Classical Studies and History from Tulane University in 2019. This past summer, Brandon worked as a summer associate in the New York City office of Jones Day. After graduation, he will clerk for the Honorable Susie Morgan of the Eastern District of Louisiana. Brandon has contributed two publications to the Review: His Case Note in Volume 94 examines the rights of NFL ticketholders after the infamous 2019 "no call" against the New Orleans Saints in the 2019 NFC Championship, and his forthcoming Comment in Volume 95 compares Louisiana's law classifying certain water bodies as public things with the corresponding laws of Chile, Ecuador, and the Netherlands in order to find more efficient ways to carry out coastal restoration.

Audrey Martin

Audrey Martin

Audrey Martin serves as Volume 95’s Senior Managing Editor. Originally from Lutcher, Louisiana, Audrey is a Tiger at heart and earned her Bachelor of Arts in English and Sociology from Louisiana State University in 2018. This past summer, she split her time between Burns Charest LLP and Krebs Farley & Dry PLLC here in New Orleans. After graduation, Audrey will join Krebs Farley as a commercial litigation associate. In addition to her editorial contributions, Audrey has also been twice published in the Review: Her Case Note in Volume 94 explores the constitutionality of cash bail and judicial administration in Louisiana, and her forthcoming Comment examines the effects of the recent United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement on immigration.

Darcy R. Samuelsohn

Darcy R. Samuelsohn serves as Volume 95's Senior Notes & Comments Editor. Darcy is from Katonah, New York and received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Delaware. Before moving to New Orleans for law school, she worked as a paralegal at Norton Rose Fulbright in New York City. This past summer, she worked as a summer associate for Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, also in New York City, where she will work full-time after graduation. Be sure to read her forthcoming Comment on the inadequacy of the qualified immunity doctrine in the context of police brutality against individuals living with mental illness.

Jessica Webb

Jessica Webb serves as Volume 95's Senior Articles Editor. Jessica is from Atlanta, Georgia but has lived in New Orleans since 2007 when she attended Tulane as an undergraduate. Prior to and during law school, she worked as a paralegal at Smith & Fawer, LLC in New Orleans. This past summer, she worked at White & Case in Houston and Fishman Haygood in New Orleans. After graduation, she will be joining White & Case in their energy and infrastructure projects group.

Gabriella Leonovicz serves as Volume 95's Senior Associate Editor. She grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana and graduated from Tulane University with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Homeland Security. This past summer, she worked at Weil Gotshal & Manges in New York City, where she will be working upon graduation. 

The Associate Editor for Volume 95 is Chace Vienne, and the Diversity Editor is Jacob W. McCarty. Additionally, Ryan Monk serves as Volume 95's Online Editor, Ilsa Luther serves as the Symposium Editor, and Chandler Block serves as the Research Editor.

Welcome to Volume 93

As the temperatures begin to drop, the students and staff of Tulane Law Review are busy preparing Volume 93's upcoming issues. This year's staff is comprised of dedicated students who work tirelessly to continue the Review's dedication to excellence in legal scholarship. 

Anais M. Jaccard is Volume 93's Editor in Chief. Originally from Los Angeles, Anais received a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from Bard College in 2011 and worked in the restaurant industry in New York City for five years before moving to New Orleans for law school. Anais was a summer associate at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, and will serve as a judicial clerk to the Honorable Eldon E. Fallon of the Eastern District of Louisiana after graduating.

Luke G. LaHaye serves as Volume 93’s Senior Managing Editor. Luke is a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he received both a Bachelor and Master's of Science in Finance from Louisiana State University. After working at a law firm in Baton Rouge, Luke decided to pursue a J.D. at Tulane. His comment discussing property abandonment in New Orleans, will be published online in the spring. After graduation, he will join Adams & Reese in New Orleans.

The managing editors for Volume 93 are Patrick M. Bollman, Sara Lynn Levy, Kathleen McCarte, Ryan D. McNamara, Erin M. Morrissey, Jansen T. Owen, Michelle Pichardo, Jessica L. Sherman, Madeline Weisblatt, Emily E. Werkmann, Taylor K. Wimberly, and Gabe Winsberg. Kathleen M. McCarte also serves as the volume's research editor, and Philip Turpin is a member at large.

Oliver Atticus Kaufman holds the title of the volume's Senior Notes and Comments Editor. Oliver is currently pursuing joint Juris Doctor and Masters of Business Administration degrees. He graduated from Tulane University in 2015. He has worked as a judicial extern to Judge Martha Vázquez of the United States District Court for the District of New Mexico and as a summer associate in the New York offices of Davis Polk & Wardwell. He currently externs as a student law clerk at the United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana.

Julianne M. Weidman  is spearheading the article selection process for Volume 93 as Senior Articles Editor. A Marylander, Julianne received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Towson University in 2016. Upon graduating and passing the bar, Julianne will clerk for the Honorable James T. Vaughn, Jr. of the Delaware Supreme Court before joining Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom as an associate in their Wilmington, Delaware office.

Ryan P. Niedermair serves as Volume 93’s Senior Associate Editor. Originally from Mandeville, Louisiana, Ryan received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Rhodes College where he played football. His comment on the criminal defendant’s constitutional right to counsel will be published in the Tulane Law Review Online. Upon graduating, Ryan will serve as a judicial clerk to the Honorable Sul Ozerden of the Southern District of Mississippi.

Professor Ronald J. Scalise, a staff member of the Review for Volumes 73 and 74, continues to serve as the Review’s Faculty Advisor. Kristy S. Christiansen will facilitate publication of the Review as Publication Supervisor. Samantha Foster will handle the Review’s finances as the Financial Services Specialist.
