Book Review by Don Willenburg
Noah Feldman's book is a fascinating history of American church-state relations, recounting some often-overlooked episodes and providing fresh perspectives on others better known. But more than just a history, the book also proposes an interesting thesis for addressing current church-state relations in a way that is intended to honor religious diversity while promoting national unity, and to recognize the value of particularly religious teachings while being inclusive. The history comes alive, and the proposal is thought-provoking.
